« New Canadian Dietary Guidelines skip meat and dairy and promote plant based proteins»

Published on 19-07-2019

The new Canadian Healthy Food Guidelines (2019) no longer include meat and dairy. The advice is more vegetable food and less meat, a radical change compared to the last advice from 2007. The new directive came into being without giving any influence to the food industry. Reports financed by the food industry were not taken into consideration. The advice is based on the latest scientific insights into healthy food. The Canadian dairy sector reacted disappointed to the advice. .

Vegetable proteins are recommended due to the increase in fiber consumption and lower use of processed meat products and saturated fats. This reduces cardiovascular disease, colon cancer and type 2 diabetes.
