TAPP Coalition Partners

Why do we advocate for fair food prices?

The current balance between animal and plant protein consumption is unsustainable for the long term. To safeguard future food security and protect our climate, we must reduce our intake of animal protein and increase our reliance on plant-based protein sources. Failing to make this shift could result in severe environmental damage, loss of biodiversity, public health challenges, animal welfare issues, economic strain on farmers, and potentially even food shortages.

How do we go about it?

For over five years, with the support of donors, businesses, politicians, scientists, and NGOs, TAPP Coalition has been dedicated to improving and protecting our planet. Our commitment includes raising awareness and building support through collaborations with independent institutes, sharing research insights, and launching impactful awareness campaigns.

We actively bring this knowledge to the attention of national and international politicians, and it’s yielding results! Several European countries, including Denmark and Germany, are now proposing taxes on meat and dairy or climate-related levies for livestock. The European Commission is also exploring a new Emissions Trading Scheme for Agriculture and Food. Thanks to our efforts, the EU Parliament voted to implement 0% VAT on vegetables and fruit and the highest VAT rate on food products with negative environmental and health impacts. Additionally, African Climate Ministers are urging OECD countries and China to tax GHG emissions from food systems.
