« ACAI-TAPP visits Minister of Environment Nigeria»

On July 24th, TAPP Coalition partner Africa Climate Action Initiative (ACAI) paid a courtesy call to the Honourable Minister of Environment of Nigeria, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, at the Ministry’s Headquarter at Mabuchi, Abuja.

Representatives of ACAI-TAPP for the visit were Professor Emmanuel Oladipo (Climate Change Principal Expert for ACAI) and Professor Laurelta Tudararo-Aherobo (Director, Women Mobilization and Mentroring, ACAI, Africa).

Prof. Oladipo presented several documents to the Minister: a letter for the support of True Animal Protein Pricing and its benefits for Nigeria, a signed declaration documents of COP28 and COP29, and the drafted declaration for presentation to African Climate Negotiators.

The Minister reacted positively, especially regarding the utilisation of the tax for the loss and damage funds which will assist the newly established Ministry of Livestock, and committed to working with the Minister of Agriculture to strategise on achieving TAPP items on the declaration, speak with other African Ministers of Environment in the forthcoming COP16 Conference at Abidjan to support the petition of TAPP Coalition and present the declaration to the African negotiators. He also agreed to be the keynote speaker at the side event at COP29.
